Adaptive Suppression

Mechanics

In order for Adaptive Suppression to work, the enemy must use an attack that has no element, or an attack with an element that the target adventurer has an advantage to.

  • Example 1: An enemy uses a Icon Element None.png non-elemental attack against a Icon Element Flame.png flame adventurer. The attack has no element, so Adaptive Damage will work.
  • Example 2: An enemy uses a Icon Element Wind.png wind attack against a Icon Element Flame.png flame adventurer. Flame has an elemental advantage to wind, so Adaptive Damage will work.
  • Example 3: An enemy uses a Icon Element Wind.png wind attack against a Icon Element Shadow.png shadow adventurer. Shadow does NOT have an elemental advantage to wind, so Adaptive Damage will NOT work.

In terms of damage calculation, Adaptive Suppression is additively applied to the elemental damage modifier.

  • Base elemental modifier depends on the elemental matchup between the user and the foe:
    • neutral matchup: 1x
    • advantageous matchup: 1.5x
    • disadvantageous matchup: 0.5x

Let's assume that we apply 5% Adaptive Suppression in each of our previous examples:

  • Example 1: An enemy uses a Icon Element None.png non-elemental attack against a Icon Element Flame.png flame adventurer. The attack has no element, so Adaptive Damage will work. This matchup is neutral, so the base modifier is 1x. The total modifier is 1 - 0.05 = 0.95x.
  • Example 2: An enemy uses a Icon Element Wind.png wind attack against a Icon Element Flame.png flame adventurer. Flame has an elemental advantage to wind, so Adaptive Damage will work. The matchup from the enemy's viewpoint is disadvantageous, so the base modifier is 0.5x. The total modifier is 0.5 - 0.05 = 0.45x
  • Example 3: An enemy uses a Icon Element Wind.png wind attack against a Icon Element Shadow.png shadow adventurer. Shadow does NOT have an elemental advantage to wind, so Adaptive Damage will NOT work. This matchup is neutral, so the base modifier is 1x. Since adaptive suppression did not work, the total modifier is unchanged at 1x.
